Every fall, right around the first weekend after Labor Day, pools up and down the Wasatch Front throw open their gates to their most enthusiastic (probably) swimmers: dogs! Before these pools get drained and cleaned for the season, several cities let local pups take one last cannonball into the deep end. It’s become one of our favorite late-summer traditions here in Utah and every year we round up the full list so you don’t miss a single splash!
This year, most of the dog pool parties in the Salt Lake City metro are landing on Saturday, September 12, 2026 – with one notable exception down in American Fork. Here’s your complete, county-by-county guide to every confirmed puppy pool party this season, plus a quick note on a few pools people always ask us about.
Is a Puppy Pool Party Right for Your Dog?
Before you circle a date on the calendar, it’s worth being honest about whether a puppy pool party is actually your dog’s scene. These events are loud, crowded, and unpredictable – dozens of dogs splashing and barking, all in a tight space. The dogs who do best are highly social, comfortable in chaotic environments, and – this is the big one – have genuinely solid recall.
As the owner, plan to be on high alert the entire time. Don’t expect to relax poolside – you need to know where your dog is and what they’re doing at all times!
A few gear and safety notes we always pass along:
- Life jackets are a good idea, even for confident swimmers. We personally like the Ruffwear Float Coat because it’s durable and gives you a handle to grab if you need to help your dog out of a crowded pool in a hurry.
- Keep an eye on paws and nails. Pool bottoms are a lot rougher than what most dogs’ paws are used to, and we’ve seen dogs come away with bleeding nails from repeatedly scraping the bottom during a high-energy swim session. Check in on your dog’s feet periodically, and don’t be afraid to call it a day early if you notice any raw spots or bleeding.
- Bring fresh water. The chlorinated water isn’t ideal for drinking, so having fresh water on hand for your pup is a good idea. This water bottle with a built in bowl is our personal go-to.
If your dog isn’t a great fit for the chaos of a public pool party, consider booking private swim time at a local dog pool instead. Dog Mode in Millcreek and Sea Dogz in Ogden both offer private and staff-assisted private swim sessions in their indoor pools so your dog can still get their paddle in without the crowd.
